Poutine is a must try when one comes to Montreal - a messy dish of fries, hot brown gravy topped with squeaky cheese curds. La Banquise is the first place in people's mind for poutine. Ask any Montrealer, it is likely that they will pinpoint to this location. This joint is well-known for its large selection toppings - sausages, smoked meat, guacamole, bacon, etc... This place is 24/7, so if ever you miss the last metro in downtown late at night, you know where to go. After eating this huge amount of calories and you still have room, do try out a Quebec's classic dessert - pouding chômeur, a sweet cake with a distinct bottom layer of maple syrup. You will sure love this dessert. You can find my recipe of pouding chômeur on my recipe blog Random Cuisine.
