Ottawa- Benny's bistro is tucked inside The French Baker. You can only know about this restaurant either by mouth-to-ear or the little pop-up sign outside the bakery.

I have this rule of thumb that if a restaurant can make phenomenal vegetarian food, the rest of their menu will taste as good. This holds true here. The roasted mushrooms have a nice earthy flavour and meaty texture. This is served with potato raviolis cooked al dente with a smooth and silky potato filling. Some green garnishes to give some freshness to the dish and some crème fraîche to add some creaminess and acidity. The amount of pesto was adequate to bring the ingredients altogether. A well thought-out dish!

The house-made gravlax is a staple on their menu - visually pleasing, lots of freshness and complex flavours. Finally, the buckwheat pancake has well-smoked moist pieces of pork leg which is paired well with a sweet refreshing remoulade.

This brunch place serves top-notch quality food, but the prices are quite steep considering the portions are European-style - definitely a great place for brunching!
