Fraser Café is the #1 stop for brunch in Ottawa. Going there without a reservation is not at all recommended even though the restaurant is relatively large.
The brunch started with huevos rancheros and egg benedict. The huevos rancheros is a compilation of ingredients that one normally finds in Mexican cuisine - nice kick of heat from the beans and a good acidity from the pickled onions. A side of greens adds some freshness and variety to the plate. This dish will definitely fill you up. The egg benedict has a hollandaise sauce that is well-balanced, light and creamy. This is complemented with a fresh tomato salad and lightly salty peameal bacon.
We ended the meal with their signature doughnuts which are freshly made on order. It comes with a rich chocolate sauce, a sweet caramel and a raspberry coulis. The fresh julienned apples helps tune down the sweetness and richness of the sauces. These doughnuts are decadent and sinfully delicious. Defintely a must order!
If you do pass by Ottawa, make sure to make a stop for brunch at Fraser Café. You won't regret it!
