I have a few coup de coeur for brunch places in Montreal like Fabergé, Lawrence, Le Cartet and Le Vieux Vélo. One common point with these places, you have to arrive early to avoid the queue. L'Avenue is now added to this list. It is well located in the heart of the Plateau, and a popular destination among tourists. The menu is rather extensive, you can have something as simple as crêpe and maple syrup, or something filling like eggs Benny and potatoes, or something country-style like ham, bacon, sausage and cretons, or something sweet like chocolate banana french toast. There is definitely a dish for everyone.

We started off brunch with their interesting blend and selection of smoothies. Many of them does not involve using banana as a binding agent. The mango-pineapple-litchi was smooth, sweet and fruity. And the other strawberry-basil-mint has a thicker texture with lots of flavours going on.

There are some noteworthy points that makes this brunch place special. It is probably the only brunch place that starts off the meal with a brochette of fresh fruits. Their egg benedicts are famous - oozy egg yolk coated with a creamy hollandaise sauce. Also, the pan roasted potatoes are simply delicious and addictive, probably the best potatoes that I have eaten. They are fork tender with a nice amount of crunch from the sides that are browned and perfectly seasoned with salt and herbs.

L'Avenue is worth waiting in line. The portions are quite generous to keep you full for a while.
